Hampton native Allen Iverson returned to the area this week in order to participate in the unveiling of a new basketball court at the Boys and Girls Club.
“We are excited and honored to have Allen return home and give our children this state of the art basketball court,” said Boys & Girls Clubs of the Virginia Peninsula Chief Executive Officer, Hal Smith. “There will be endless hours of entertainment and recreation at this facility for years to come.”
In addition to the unveiling, Reebok donated 150 backpacks and pairs of shoes to help prepare the kids for back-to-school. The backpacks were filled with school supplies donated by Newport News Shipbuilding employees and DTLR employees.
“We are happy to do our part to help Allen give the kids of Newport News an amazing new place to play basketball,” said Todd Krinsky, Senior VP, GM of Reebok Performance BU. “Allen has been part of the Reebok family for more than 20 years and we look forward to doing more great things like this with him in the future.”
The ceremony took place Friday morning and was followed by a community day for the children of the Boys and Girls Club. The kids played basketball with Allen Iverson, enjoyed food and additional fun at the club.
