At the mid-point of the high school basketball season, Lavar Griffin has his Tigers (9-1) focused on the task ahead. Deep Creek challenged Oscar Smith throughout, but the Tigers were able to establish a 31-20 lead late in the second quarter and they extended that lead in the second half.
“They played hard,” said the Oscar Smith head coach after the win. “I always say when we play Deep Creek, they’re going to come out and play us hard. Overall, I think we played good as a team like we always do. We made some big shots tonight. Torrey and Briquan stepped up tonight with they’re shots and they helped us get ahead.”
Torrey Jordan led the Tigers 21 points including six three-pointers. Jordan was supported by Karl Chavis, who added 12 points and 13 rebounds.
“We came out and looked sluggish a little bit, but then our players started getting into it and started getting buckets,” said Jordan. “We’re getting better. We have more confidence. With our bench players, everybody is starting to get in the game.”
The Tigers next game is Friday night at 7:00 at Grassfield (7-5). The Deep Creek Hornets (3-8) return home to host Great Bridge (2-10) on Friday night at 7:00.
