It’s officially camp season in Hampton Roads! Over the next few week coaching staffs at local schools Christopher Newport, Hampton, Norfolk State, Old Dominion and William & Mary will all host youth basketball camps.
ODU women’s head coach Karen Barefoot hosted an elite girls camp over the weekend but today will officially mark the beginning of her “Barefoot Basketball day camps”. The first session will run from June 20-23 for ages 8-18 while the second session will take place July 11-14 for ages 6 through rising 9th graders. Meanwhile on the boys side, Norfolk State will host the first session of the annual Robert Jones Green & Gold youth basketball camp from June 27-30. This year’s camp will feature former Spartan and current New York Knick center Kyle O’Quinn who has been a frequent visitor to the Hampton Roads area recently, also participating in Kam Chancellor’s celebrity basketball game over the Memorial Day weekend. The Hampton men’s coaching staff will also juggle camps the next couple of weeks, with its youth camp also starting today in addition to hosting an elite boys camp on June 25 from 9am to 3pm. The elite camp is designed for rising 8th through 12th grade athletes. The second session of the youth camp will follow next week’s elite boys camp, running from June 27-30. Christopher Newport will also host a pair of youth camps this summer. The first session will run from June 27-30 for ages 7-17. The second session will take place August 1-4, also for ages 7-17. Captains mens head coach John Krikorian will also host a shooting camp from July 26-28 for grades 6-12. The camp will be limited to 30 participants. William and Mary women’s head coach Ed Swanson, who just completed his third year with the program will host two camps this summer. The Nike Girls Basketball Camp will run from June 26-30 at William & Mary’s Kaplan Arena for all girls ages 8-17. A one-day elite camp for grades 9-12 will take place on Friday, August 5 and will also be held at Kaplan Arena.
