Western Branch on upset alert against streaking Braves

Unbeaten Western Branch will travel to Indian River tonight to take on a streaking Braves team. The Bruins are currently 20-0, while Indian River is scorching hot, having won nine out of their last 10 ballgames.
Both teams feature plenty of offensive firepower, with four of top 20 scorers in South Hampton Roads participating in this contest. Western Branch’s Kendall Bynum and DJ Driscoll lead the charge for the Bruins, while Indian Rivers counters with Lorenzo Gatling and Noah Pannell. The Braves last loss was at the hands of Oscar Smith. Driscoll is coming off a dominant senior night performance against Grassfield, finishing with 21 points and 16 rebounds.
Tip-off is 7:00 pm at Indian River School.
Hampton-Woodside meet for PD title on Thursday
Two teams ranked in this week’s 757 Girls Top 10 poll will battle this Thursday, when #10 Hampton travels to #9 Woodside. The Lady Crabbers handed Woodside its lastest defeat to take a share of the Peninsula District lead last Friday. Hampton led by double digits in the first half before holding for a 55-49 win. Kandis Johnson led the Crabbers with 18 points.
Tip-off for Thursday’s contest is 5:30pm at Woodside High School.
Lafayette boys clinch Bay Rivers District title
With a 51-41 win over Grafton last Thursday, Lafayette clinched the Bay Rivers District title outright. Keyshawn Jefferson finished a game-high 21 points for the Rams. Jefferson also held Grafton star Josh Moore to 10 points on 5 of 16 shooting. The Bay Rivers District title is the first for Lafayette in the school’s history.
