Expectations are fulfilled as ODU goes to 1-0

Coming into the season, the ODU Monarchs were picked to finish third in Conference USA.
Conference play isn’t here yet, but the Monarch started the season right with a win over the Midshipmen of Navy, 67-44.
Ahmad Caver led all players with 24 points. He added five rebounds and three assists in 22 minutes on the floor. Navy forward George Kiernan led his squad with ten points.
Ultimately, Old Dominion won the game with defense and free throw shooting. Navy was 14-56 shooting (25%) on the night. Old Dominion shot nearly 36% from the floor and 65% from the free throw line going 17 for 26 from the charity stripe.
The game was tied 14-14 with 6:41 left in the first half as both teams had problems generating offense. Old Dominion went on a 21-6 run in order to lead 35-20 at the half. Navy had a run to start the second half, but the Monarchs never trailed after their hot streak before halftime.
12 Monarchs saw floor time against Navy with eight players getting double-digit minutes. Dajour Dickens was the sixth man, logging six points, three blocks and four rebounds in 18 minutes. Dickens was efficient, going two-for-two from the field and two-for-two on free throws.
ODU hits the road for their next game on Friday, November 9 against St. Joseph’s in Philadelphia.
