June was full of college visits for Antwaun Powell (2020 DE 6-3 220).
He has spent most of his spring recovering from shoulder surgery, but he was fortunate to have plenty of offers in hand along with a junior season that did the talking for him. There was no need for camps this year. He could focus on his recruitment.
Antwaun’s June stops included UNC, Virginia Tech, Michigan and Florida. Maryland was on the short list, but didn’t get a late visit.
On Wednesday afternoon, Powell confirmed a verbal commitment to the University of Florida.
“I am very thankful for my family, friends, coaches and community support I’ve received on and off the field and during the recruitment process. With that being said, I feel the best decision for me, and I’m excited to announce that I am 100% committed to the University of Florida,” he said in a social media post.

With his commitment, Powell becomes the second defensive line prospect to commit to the Gators from the 757. In January of 2017, Hampton Crabber lineman Elijah Conliffe held a commitment ceremony in the Hampton High School gym. In a dramatic reveal, Conliffe committed to the Gators out of the recruiting class of 2017.
Powell comes into his senior season as a leader on the defense for the I.C. Norcom Greyhounds. This is a year where they welcome a new head coach in Robert Jackson and start a quest to spark a deeper playoff run. Last year, Greyhounds’ season ended in a Region 3A final where Norcom and Phoebus slogged their way to a 0-0 tie in regulation before Phoebus won 7-6 in double overtime.
The college commitment is done. Antwaun Powell can now focus on his senior year.
