It’s a non-conventional pick.
Earlier in April, Cox defensive back Keontae Jenkins (2020 DB 5-10 165) made it clear that he was nearing a decision. There was no narrowed offer list. He had a healthy list of options including TCU, East Carolina, Pitt, Michigan, UNC, Virginia, Liberty, Virginia Tech, Florida State, Louisville, Auburn, Wisconsin, Nebraska, and Florida.
His older brother, Levonta Taylor, committed to Florida State and his now a star defensive back there.
“Coach [Gary] Patterson’s personality – it’s more than football,” Jenkins told WTKR. “He really cares about his players. And they’ve been recruiting me since the beginning.”
Jenkins’ commitment to Texas Christian is a first for the region, at the least in recent memory. This is a day and age where high school athletes are exploring options that are further and further away from home. TCU, which is in Fort Worth, is in the heart of Texas and a contender in the newly expanded SEC.
Injuries limited Jenkins’ junior season to a lesser role, playing only six games of his team’s 12-game campaign where he tallied ten tackles, eight solo, with an interception and two PBU.
