Today’s Early Signing Day allows verbally committed athletes to ink their commitment

Wednesday is the first day of the early signing period and athletes around the state are making their commitments official.
The Early Signing Period was instituted just a few years ago by the NCAA, allowing high school athletes to sign a National Letter of Intent to Division I schools in the same time frame as Junior College athletes who move from the Juco ranks to four-year institutions. The early signing period runs December 18 to December 20.
There are few surprises with the early signing day. The expectation of larger Division I schools is to have their verbal commitments sign now so that the recruiting class is locked up. Bigger schools can move on to focus on other things and the coaching staffs at smaller schools can take the signings they get now, and fill up the rest of their class in early February.
Here are the signings we can expect today. Many are confirmed. Typically, a signing is done officially at the start of the day and faxed into the college football office first thing in the morning. A celebration done for fans and the media is simply ceremonial. Their signing tweets are displayed below:
KeAndre Lambert – Maury – Penn State
Antoine Sampah – Woodbridge – LSU
Chris Tyree – Thomas Dale – Notre Dame
Joe Johnson – LCA – Penn State
Ethan West – Cosby – UNC
Elijah Gaines – Episcopal – Virginia
Lakeem Rudolph – Green Run – Virginia Tech
Amorie Morrison – Salem – Old Dominion
Vershon Lee – Freedom (PW) – South Carolina
Javon Swinton – North Stafford – Indiana
Matthew Hibner – Lake Braddock – Michigan
Nehki Meredith – Catholic – NC State
There were a couple of surprises. More than a month ago, Highland Springs defensive back Malcolm Greene had a verbal commitment to LSU leaked by recruiting pundits. This morning, Greene signed a commitment to Clemson.

In another surprise, Maury RB C.J. Beasley has signed with Coastal Carolina. Beasley was originally committed to Virginia Tech, but decommitted from the Hokies several months ago. We knew he was uncommitted. He announced his decision to go to Coastal Carolina on Tuesday night.
First i would like to thank the man above for giving me another opportunity. I’m proud to announce that i will be attending Coastal Carolina University. Thank you to the colleges that were recruiting me, Maury coaching staff and my teammates for a great senior season. pic.twitter.com/meIwjpiTAC
