Kecoughtan LB Jonathan Melvin cashes in on Penn offer by announcing his commitment

If the goal is to reach heights you’ve never been able to obtain then the preparation process should include something you’ve never down before. It also wouldn’t hurt to surround yourself with company that owns the same way of thinking in which you hold. Kecoughtan starting linebacker Jonathan Melvin honed onto these words last weekend when he made the five-hour trip up to the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to his visit, Melvin was still in the process of trying to decide where his loyalty would rest for the next four years. But by the time his left Philadelphia, Melvin had a scholarship offer in hand and pledged his allegiance to Penn.
“The visit was great,” Melvin told recruit757. “The combination of education, football and just life itself being in Philly is not easy to find. I had an official visit this past weekend. On the first day I knew they were planning to offer me, but I wasn’t completely sure. On the first night at dinner is when they offered and I committed the next morning.”
For Melvin (2019 LB 6-1 226), the decision to commit to Penn was deeper than the game of football itself. With the backing of alumni such as Elon Musk, Melvin has been awarded an opportunity to invest in his future on a level more profound than he could ever imagine.
“At Penn, not only have they produced over 20 billionaires, they’ve had 45 guys drafted into the NFL,” Melvin stated. “If you have the talent you can go pro and if not, you’ll definitely have something to fall back on.”
Initially, the Kecoughtan product planned to look into the engineering program. Upon further thought, he may lean more towards the College of Arts and Science his freshman year. However, business or engineering won’t be too far from his mind should he decide to go into a different direction.
Aside from Penn, Melvin also holds an offer from Davidson. Despite his lack of offers, Melvin has received interest from: James Madison, Richmond, William & Mary, Liberty and Coastal Carolina among others. The Kecoughtan product made an appearance at the recruit757 Uncommitted Senior Showcase on Martin Luther King, Jr. day looking to put up a few good numbers after being out of football action since November 9 of last year.
“The showcase wasn’t bad at all. I was just trying to run a better 40 and have some fun. They put me at 6’1” and 226 pounds. I was also able to run a 4.7, but I was hoping to get 4.6. I don’t think we had a thorough warm up before the combine but it was fine,” Melvin said.
