College commitments continue to roll in.
Joe Burris had narrowed his options to Chowan and Ferrum. Chowan thoroughly impressed Joe, but Ferrum won him over on his visit Monday. By Tuesday, he had made up his mind and verbally committed to the Panthers.
“Coach Bobby James and Coach Ranche made an outstanding presentation. The campus at Ferrum just felt like home,” said Burris.
Burris earned a Dean’s scholarship. Division III schools don’t offer athletic money, but academic money can pay the way in full.
“Joe is an awesome young man whoh did a great job for us this year filling in for P.J. I am so proud of him,” said Kellam head coach Chris Dewitt.
P.J. is Kellam running back P.J. Dziekan, who led the Knights’ rushing attack in 2017, but suffered a knee injury prior to the 2018 season and missed his senior year.
Burris’ increased role in the Kellam offense led the Knights to a playoff berth in 2018, their first since 2015.
Several other Kellam seniors are expected to make college commitments before National Signing Day. Dziekan and lineman Jacob Herbst visited Salisbury University (MD) earlier this week.
