On National Signing Day, Hampton University added ten signees to the eight that committed in December for a 2019 Signing Class that now stands at 18 student-athletes.
Lafayette lineman Elijah Washington was one of five high school athletes that signed on Wednesday, along with five transfers that will bring experience to the squad.
“I want to commend my assistant coaches for the job they did with our recruiting class,” Prunty said. “Last year we addressed a need and got bigger on the defensive line, while this year we addressed a need and got bigger on the offensive line.”
Washington was a part of a historic run of Bay Rivers District Titles and playoff runs at Lafayette. The Rams haven’t lost a district game since 2012, and during Elijah’s four years at Lafayette, the Rams lost only five games. In his senior season, Washington was First Team VHSL Class 4 All-State, First Team All-Region 4A and First Team All-Bay Rivers District.
“Elijah brings position flexibility across our Offensive Line. He can play all three positions; Center, Guard, and Tackle,” Prunty stated. “He also has the athletic ability to pull and get out in space. Another great signee from the 757.”
All of the remaining nine Pirate commitments from Wednesday are out-of-state athletes.
