Nansemond River linebacker Gerard Stringer is arguably the gem of Nansemond River’s rising senior class.
At the team’s College Day Workout in May, Stringer attracted the attention of quite a few coaches, including staff from UNC, Coastal Carolina, James Madison, Virginia Tech, VMI, Liberty, and more.
This past weekend, Stringer visited East Carolina. He landed a scholarship offer before leaving and it didn’t take long for him to make a decision. Within 24 hours, Gerard Stringer verbally committed to the Pirates.
“My family and I went down there on Sunday,” said Stringer. “Before I left, they offered. I love everything down there. East Carolina is a great place. They have a great atmosphere. I like the campus. I like the football program, and I like the coaches. I really fell in love with it. It’s a dream school for me.”
Stringer confirmed that the Pirates see him as an outside linebacker, the same position he’s playing at the high school level. Gerard competed at the recruit757 Clash of the Titans back in early April, measuring 6-2 and weighing 190 pounds. He was also the linebacker MVP for the 757 region players at the camp.
Stringer picked up his first offer in early May, just after their college day workout when Ohio University offered. Army and Navy followed suit. The East Carolina offer was obviously the one he was looking for.
“It’s a great place to play football. It’s close to home and my family can come and see me play,” said Stringer.
