There may be a new head coach and coaching staff at Ocean Lakes, but there’s still plenty of talent on the roster. That means college scholarship offers are still rolling in for the Dolphins.
On Tuesday morning, Darkare Coston (JR CB 6-0 175) picked up an offer from the US Naval Academy.
“I got a text this morning from Coach (Dan) O’Brien telling me that they were going to offer Dakare,” Ocean Lakes head coach Joe Jones confirmed. “Coach Pehrson, the defensive coordinator, came by the school last week to watch him work out and practice. Coach Pehrson really liked the way he moved and ran.”
Pehrson’s visit just confirmed Navy’s interest and the offer was confirmed Tuesday morning.
“Darkare has good size and runs well. He’s a great cover guy at corner. He’s a very good student and he works hard. This is going to be a breakout year for Dakare,” Coach Jones said.
With the offer to Dakare Coston, two current Dolphins hold offers from the Naval Academy: Coston and Class of 2018 athlete Jalen Smith. Smith’s older brother, class of 2016 running back Justin Smith combined with phenom tailback Khalan Laborn and fab freshman Jake Low to yield incredible results for the 2015 Dolphins. Justin committed to the Naval Academy, giving the Midshipmen a good pipeline into the high school.
Coston will go from unheralded back up to shining star in his senior season. Last year, as a defensive back he was behind Tahj Capehart (21 offers), Levonta Taylor (Florida State commit), Anthony Womack (JMU) and freshman Tank Land (multiple offers). He was getting solid practice time alongside and against those top recruits.
Along with several teammates, Coston made a visit to a James Madison Junior Day this spring. He’ll have more college stops planned for the summer and his name will certainly circulate.
As Coach Jones predicts, Darkare Coston is in for a breakout year.
