The entire region is buzzing from a recruiting standpoint which has lit a fire under both Hampton Roads and the entire Richmond area. Despite missing most of the season last year, programs have begun to take notice of what a player like Norcom starting linebacker Taurus Jones could bring to a program. On Monday, Jones was able to notch offers from both North Carolina Central and the University of Central Florida. As If that wasn’t enough, he was able to cap off Tuesday by picking up an offer from Coach Mike London and Howard University.
“I was excited and just realizing how blessed I am. Honestly, this is crazy just having the opportunity to play college football,” Jones stated.
Norcom head coach Larry Archie provided Jones (2019 LB 6-2 210) with the news early Tuesday morning that he had received a scholarship offer from the Bison, but Jones waited to make his announcement. What’s extremely incredible about what Jones has accomplished is that he’s been able to have a successful recruitment despite accruing a major injury at the start of last season. The Norcom product isn’t completely at full strength yet, but he appears to be on track with his target month of June.
Howard, Central Florida, and North Carolina Central will have to contend against a large contingent of programs who have already shown just how much they also value what Jones can bring. Old Dominion, UNC-Charlotte, Appalachian State, Fordham, Norfolk State, Hampton and the United States Military Academy have all provided offers to the Norcom product.
Norcom continues to shimmer this spring from a recruiting standpoint and making an active effort to continue to get better. Aside from Jones joining the double-digit offer club, starting defensive back CaSaan Dixon (2019 DB 6-1 185) has now been elevated to a three-star prospect and is the 35th ranked prospect in the state. Dixon is currently sitting on six offers with his most recent offer coming from Grambling State. What’s notable about his accomplishments is that he’s been able to accrue his success without heading to any camps or combines which is similar to Jones.
Also making moves for the Greyhounds this off-season is starting quarterback Jacoby Smith (2020 QB 6-0 196). The rising junior made a showing at the recruit757 CPAC this past Saturday and was able to compete against the likes of Colt Minson (Bishop Sullivan) among others.
