Ocean Lakes lineman Shawn Fahey had seen and heard enough.
In April, Fahey (2021 OL 6-3 270) received an offer from Norfolk State. In May, Merrimack College offered. Now in July, Shawn has made his decision and closed his recruitment.

“They were my first offer, so they where the first to realize my potential in college. Now that we won’t be playing in the fall, my coaches advised me to make a choice sooner rather than later. Also, some of my old teammates go there which made it an easier choice for me. All in all, I’m just really excited about this opportunity,” Fahey said.
His Ocean Lakes team made a playoff run in 2019, and Fahey was looking forward to seeing his team go even further in 2020.
On Wednesday morning, the VHSL announced several options for resuming high school sports, but none of the options included playing football in the fall.
The uncertainty made Norfolk State a certainty for Fahey.
“Coach Buggs recruited me,” Shawn stated. “I have taken virtual tours with all that’s going on. The coaching staff is great!”
With the commitment, Fahey becomes the first local commitment for Norfolk State’s recruiting class of 2021. The Spartans recently added a signee in Liberty transfer Tayvion Land. Land also played his football at Ocean Lakes, and he’s a highly anticipated addition for Norfolk State after playing his freshman season at Liberty University.
