NORFOLK (WAVY) — Old Dominion wrapped up its spring football sessions with the annual Blue-White scrimmage.
Redshirt sophomore quarterback Drayton Arnold was impressive in his time on the field. He helped lead the Blue team to a 26-21 win.
Arnold was 14 of 21 for 195 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Steven Williams, a true sophomore, is presumably the starting quarterback, but he took a while to get warmed up.
Williams completed 6 of his 14 pass attempts for 42 yards. He threw one interception when 6-foot-6 defensive end Tim Ward tipped and intercepted a Williams pass attempt.
Williams ran three times for 28 yards, and on one of those runs he tweaked his hamstring and did not return to the game.
ODU missed out on a bowl game last year, and according to coach Bobby Wilder, no position is locked up.
“Since we went 5-7, every position is up for grabs,” Wilder said. “I was very impressed with the way Drayton Arnold played, his competitiveness, I was happy with the way Stevie played (too).”
The spring game was a part of a full day at Old Dominion. The day started with the Big Blue 1K and 5K and was followed by a Joe Nichols concert on the football field.
Old Dominion is off until August camp. The Monarchs open the season on the road against Liberty University.
