The face of Maury’s 2018 football program is very likely wide receiver Keandre Lambert or defensive back Sheridan Jones. Jones is a senior Clemson commit and Lambert is a junior with more than a dozen offers.
The face of the future at Maury may well be lineman Paul Hutson, III.
Freshman Paul Hutson (2022 DT/OG 6-0 245) is impressive as a young athlete and he’s approaching college ready size. He’s already very competitive at the high school level and he has four seasons to continue to develop.
Virginia Tech assistant coach Zohn Burden sees the potential and he extended an offer to Hutson.
Coach Dyrri McCain got the news and shared it with us.
“(Paul) works hard and has been working hard since he showed up. He’s very hungry, wants to learn, and wants to get better. The kid has a very bright future,” said McCain. “He has tremendous upside.”
Of course Hudson was thrilled to get the offer. It’s quite an endorsement of his potential.
“Getting this first offer means that if I continue to work hard on and off the field, that I can realize my dreams are playing college football and getting a great education,” Hutson stated. “I’m extremely excited about the offer from Virginia Tech, it is one of the top programs in the country.”
Hutson is keeping his head on straight. He’s locked into his role of helping his team achieve their success. They got off on the right foot Friday night with a hard-fought 16-15 win over Nansemond River.
“(The offer) was a surprise. I just try to keep my head down and keep working hard as possible. We have a ton of talent here at Maury, and have great coaches pushing us hard. My focus has been on this season,” he said. “I just try to do my part. My parents have sacrificed a lot for me, and I’ve had a lot of amazing coaches throughout my life.”
Virginia Tech is the first offer for Hutson.
