Elijah Mitchell, Anthony Wallace land destinations ahead of National Signing Day for Phoebus

Now that Barry Hargraves and Latrelle Smith are off the board for the Phoebus, we’re starting to see other prospects for the Phantoms gearing up to announce their commitments. Defensive back Elijah Mitchell (2019 DB 5-11 165) only played in the first three games of the regular season before missing the remainder of the season after rupturing his Anterior Cruciate Ligament. Despite missing the majority of the season including the Phantoms prolific playoff run, the recruiting process of Mitchell didn’t suffer too much of a setback. Even through the end of the season, Mitchell was still in the process of accumulating collegiate offers.
His most recent offer came back on December 6 coming from the University of Charleston. On Friday afternoon, the Phoebus product announced that Charleston was the place he wanted to spend the next four years of his academic and athletic career.
“I picked UC because they have a great football and academic program.” Mitchell told recruit757. “The campus and the state capital itself were beautiful, but after my official I knew I wanted to spend the next four years of my life there.”
Mitchell also held collegiate offers from Wingate and UVA-Wise prior to his commitment to Charleston. The Phantoms’ defensive back plans to take up Biology while at Charleston and has a goal of maintaining a 3.7 grade point average throughout his freshman year and beyond. Mitchell plans to be fully recovered from his ACL injury by the time July rolls around so that his productivity on the field can match that of his efforts off the field.
Prior to the commitment of Mitchell on Thursday afternoon came the commitment of Phoebus starting kicker Anthony Wallace (2019 K 6-0). The Apprentice School was able to secure a commitment out of Wallace on Tuesday afternoon to add to the litter of Hampton Roads talent lining up to become a Builder. Wallace was arguably the best kicker in the Peninsula District last season garnering All-District, All-Region and All-757 honors.
