Athletic dual-threat QB Chris Daniels now has offer #1
Phoebus QB Chris Daniels (2020 QB 5-11 175) has achieved a lot in his high school career.
His junior season highlights included an inspiring run to the VHSL Class 3 State Championship game where the Phantoms lost a spirited battle with Heritage Lynchburg.
This weekend, Daniels picked up his first college opportunity when the Naval Academy offered.
“I am really excited to finally have someone believe in my abilities to play football and see the love I have for the game,” said Daniels. “All of the coaches at Navy talk a lot about the brotherhood of their program and that’s something that I’m looking for. It was a weight lifted of my shoulders because the recruiting process is tough.”
In addition to visiting the Naval Academy, Chris has visited Coastal Carolina and East Carolina this year.
“Those visits went well. Coastal Carolina and East Carolina both want to see me throw the ball. I will be going to one of their camps and see if they can come to our college workout day that Phoebus does every year,” Chris stated.
Many local high schools set aside an afternoon in the Spring Evaluation Period for college coaches who recruit the region to see the entire team workout. These events have yielded more scholarship offers for local athletes and it gives prospects a shot at interacting with the college coaches who want to recruit them.
In the meantime, Daniels continues to get work with the Mach1 7-on-7 squad, and they have plans to visit the University of Maryland in April on the same weekend they’ll compete in a regional event in the area.
As a smaller quarterback, Daniels feels as though he has to fight harder to prove himself. He’ll camp to showcase his abilities and earn scholarship offers. He knows what he wants out of his college opportunities.
“I’m looking at school that give QBs my size a chance to play,” he said.
As long as Chris Daniels is proving his tenacity, his athleticism and his play making abilities, he’s certain to get a chance to be seen and earn opportunities at the next level.
