Princess Anne cornerback Tony Grimes (2021 CB 6-1 185) is one of the most sought after defensive backs in the recruiting class of 2021. He’s not only on the wish list of college coaches, but when Princess Anne High School experienced a coaching change in the off-season, Grimes was on the wish list of quite a few high school coaches, including those at IMG Academy in Florida and St. Frances Academy in Maryland.
All of the bluster about a pending transfer died down. Tony stuck it out with his high school and his teammates, and that had no ill effect on his recruitment. In fact, it shows college coaches that he can stick with a commitment, and that demonstration of loyalty and persistence is more rare these days.
Over the weekend, Grimes formally annnounced a Top 13 through his father, Princess Anne assistant coach Deon Glover.

In the tweet, Grimes has named Maryland, Penn State, Virginia, Texas A8M, Oklahoma, UNC, Alabama, Texas, LSU, Clemson, South Carolina, Ohio State and Virginia Tech.
Over the summer, Tony alluded to the possibility of shifting his interest list around and he made it clear where his priorities are. He wants to become the best defensive player he can be. He also mentioned that he’d likely make a decision in the next twelve months, but he would keep it to himself and make it public at an All-American Game in January 2021.
“I’m committing before my senior season. I’m going to let it be announced at the (All-American) game,” Tony stated. “I’m trying to do what’s best for me and trying to be great. I want a program that puts DBs in the league. I want a coach who knows how to train (me).”
So his destination will be kept private between him and the school he’ll commit to. If he keeps his word, Tony will keep fans and friends in the dark until the end of his senior season.
