BLACKSBURG (WAVY) – Virginia Tech’s young, but talented defense showed its potential in the Hokies’ annual Spring game at Lane Stadium.
Bud Foster’s “Lunch-Pail Defense” began the day by intercepting Josh Jackson in the redzone, and later sacking the redshirt-sophomore quarterback in the endzone for a safety. Hampton’s Ricky Walker (Bethel High School) was the one credited with the sack, and says he believes his unit played with enthusiasm.
“Today, they (the defense) looked good,” said Walker. “They looked hungry, they came out with the right mindset. I think everybody did. First half, defensively we looked good. Solid.”
Another Hampton Roads producted brought the crowd to its feet. Chesapeake’s Deshawn McClease (Oscar Smith High School) broke through the line, and scooted 55 yards for a touchdown.
