The Salem Sun Devils had a Beach District championship season in 2019.
The vaunted Salem defense had a lot to do with their winning ways. Offensively, their rushing attack chewed up yardage and lit up the scoreboard.
Senior running back Lex Henry (2020 RB 5-8 175) made his impact as one of three top options in the run game behind Kaelon Black (James Madison commit) and dual-threat quarterback Saquan Miles (2022 QB 6-0 200).
Salem head coach Shawn Wilson shared the news of Henry’s decision.
“Lex will be walking on and playing football at Norfolk State University,” said the coach in a message sent Friday afternoon.
The coach also shared a statement from Lex: “I’m just grateful and blessed to have this humbling opportunity to continue my passion for this sport at the college level.”
Henry becomes the third local on record with a commitment to Norfolk State from the recruiting class of 2020, following Lake Taylor OLB/TE Ikeem Wright and Landstown QB Chris Price.
In the 2019 season, Henry played in all 13 games. The Sun Devils finished with a Region 5A championship game loss to Maury, who went on to win the Class 5 State Championship this year.
Henry’s stat line for his senior season was 776 rushing yards on 112 carries with 8 rushing touchdowns. He also had 14 catches for 130 receiving yards and a touchdown out of the backfield.
