We’ve known V.J. Johnson since he starred in the recruit757 Futures Game for Middle School Athletes not that many years ago.
Now he’s coming into his junjor season and recruiting is picking up for him.
Johnson (2020 ATH 5-10 175) picked up a scholarship offer from Morgan State on Monday. That’s the third in his collection, with a great possibility that more offers are coming, especially since he still has two more football seasons ahead of him.
“I went up (to Morgan State) for the day for a visit. It was great. I loved the campus atmosphere. The coaches were great hosts. I got a lot of one-on-one time with Coach Jones (Head Coach Earnest T. Jones) and Coach Dickerson (Assistant Head Coach Ron Dickerson, Jr.), said Johnson.
This wasn’t a camp visit to Morgan State, which is on the north side of Baltimore. It was an unofficial visit and a chance to see the campus and football facilities.
“I got to tour the campus with the coaches. They showed me the stadium, the facilities (academic and athletic), I got to spend some quality 1 on 1 time with the Wide Receivers Coach (Coach Dickerson), I also got to sit down and speak with the head coach and talk with him 1-on-1,” V.J. said.
Florida Atlantic offered V.J. over a year ago as Head Coach Lane Kiffin sent an assistant coach into the 757 and the 804 to spread offers around. Maryland offered Johnson even earlier. The Terp offer came in the summer of 2016.
Other schools are pursing Johnson for visits and camp this summer.
“South Carolina, Virginia Tech, East Carolina, Clemson, and Notre Dame have all reached out and invited me to camp. My dad and I are still trying to plan the rest of my camp schedule around the team events at Bishop,” he said. “I’m looking forward to this junior season. My team and I worked very this off season. We got to learn a lot from the Senior class that just graduated. I’m very excited about what this season has in store.”
