It’s been an eventful few months for the major prospects over at Booker T. Washington. At the beginning of January, starting linebacker Tayeon Woods committed to the University of Charleston and then de-committed just a month later. By the time mid-February arrived, Woods was ready to announce another commitment in which would land him with Coach Bobby Rome and Virginia University of Lynchburg.
Kevin Towns also made the decision to commit to the University of Charleston, but pulled back on his decision at the beginning of February. At the beginning of March he was ready to commit to VUL, but then decided the Dragons weren’t the program he wanted to spend the next two to four years. This left the door open for him to accept a Preferred Walk-on position under Coach Latrell Scott and Norfolk State.
We now make our way to the Mighty Bookers dual-threat starting quarterback in Larry Parker, Jr. Parker (2020 QB 6-2 190) has been patiently waiting for his first collegiate scholarship offer to drop and it did so on Wednesday afternoon from Coach Rome and VUL. The Dragons are having a hard time establishing a pipeline with Booker T. Washington, however; the acquisition of Parker could open the door for future conversations between VUL and the Mighty Bookers.
“Coach Rome told me to contact him so today I did and once he responded it was great news,” Parker explained. “He told me that he had been keeping an eye on me and that he loved my film. After that he pulled the trigger and offered. He told me that he hopes VUL is home and I was ecstatic. I haven’t had this feeling in a while and once I told my momma, she started crying.”
Parker had a favorable season last year accumulating 1,084 yards on 60-of-149 passes and 11 touchdowns. He also combined with Rodney Hammond and Tayeon Woods to rush for 2,560 yards on 370 carries and 21 touchdowns.
Thus far during the off-season, Parker has been hitting the weight room with major aggression in preparation for his senior season. Currently he’s getting heavy interest from Howard, Maine, Navy, Virginia Union, Liberty, Fordham, Yale, and Delaware State. The Mighty Booker product is academically qualified and holds a 3.5 grade point average.
Also picking up offers this week from BTW were Rodney Hammond and Johnathon Wheeler. Hammond (2021 RB 5-10 170) added to his ever growing collection after picking up an offer from TCU on Monday while Wheeler (2020 OL 6-4 330) picked up his fifth offer from Virginia State on Wednesday.
