Controlling what he can, York lineman James Wade puts in his off-season work

James Wade was one of the first local athletes to participate in a recruit757 Spotlight Showcase Camp. He and teammate Jordin Lennon were measured and were able to get a check up on their off-season condition with a series of skill tests on agility, footwork, burst and speed.
Wade is an agile big man, and he showed it by running a 4.95 in the pro shuttle that day.
“My 5-10-5 was pretty good and I always work on my footwork, so I felt pretty good on that. It’s definitely very different. I’ve been working outside a lot. It was a really good workout and I enjoyed it,” Wade commented. “On the (stepovers) I need to get my feet up and pump my arms more, and finish through.”
The football season may still be in question, but that doesn’t damper James’ enthusiasm for the countdown to kickoff. We’re assuming that we get football this fall.
“I’m really pumped. They’ve released that we can start practicing again, so I’m really excited to get with my team and work out with them again,” James said. “It’s really important for us to bounce back. People think we’re not going to do the same as last year, but we just need to show them otherwise and really perform.”
The York Falcons shocked the Bay Rivers District by knocking off Lafayette for the first time since 2011. York went on to go undefeated in the regular season and they won the Bay Rivers District title outright for the first time in almost a decade. The squad had a lot of seniors graduate, so there’s pressure on the younger guys to step up this fall.
“Last year, I was an underclassman. Now I really need to lead the pack and help them get into the swing of things,” Wade explained.
