Over the last two weeks the Central Region has been filled with prospects ready to close the door on their recruitment and the timing couldn’t be more perfect. When a prospect knows that a particular program is the one it’s difficult to deter him or her from wanting to make that decision on the spot. Dinwiddie linebacker K’vaughan Pope (2018 LB 6-2 210) knew that Ohio State was going to be the choice well before the start of last summer, but let the process play out in an effort to leave no stone unturned. Louisa County starting linebacker Brandon Smith (2019 LB 6-5 215) ended his commitment a few weeks ago after committing to Penn State and the same applied to L.C. Bird starting lineman Hakeem Beamon (2019 DL 6-4 250).
In a surprise move this evening, Hermitage starting running back C.J. Jackson (2019 RB 5-10 192) joined his counterparts in ending his recruitment just three months before the start of the regular season. When it was all said and done, James Madison University would be the program that would receive Jackson’s stamp of approval.
“I went out to James Madison on Sunday and got a full tour. I felt like no other program was going to be able to compete with it. It’s close to home, there’s a family atmosphere about the campus and I’ll be able to get playing time early,” Jackson told recruit804 on Thursday evening.
Multiple factors went into Jackson making this decision which also included how he feels he fits into the program and the type of scheme the Dukes like to run on offense. Getting the chance to make this decision before the start of the season gives Jackson the chance to not only focus solely on football, but it affords him the luxury of being able to enjoy his senior season.
“It was best for me to make this decision right now. I don’t want to have any distractions going into the season. I just want to focus on my team and make sure that everything is just perfect,” Jackson stated.
By committing to James Madison, Jackson allows himself to be in the company of familiar talent. Three senior prospects graduating from Hermitage on June 12 in Mateo Jackson (2018 LB 6-2 215), Percy Mayers (2018 WR 5-11 180), and Jahmol Robinson (2018 DE 6-1 220) have also committed to James Madison. This will give Jackson the chance to reconnect at the end of his senior season.
As a junior Jackson rushed for 1,009 yards and 13 touchdowns and looks to build off a successful season with the expectation of more touches being created with the departure of Webster Hill, IV. The Hermitage prospect decided to go with James Madison despite holding collegiate offers from the likes of Kent State, Purdue, Old Dominion, Richmond, East Carolina and Howard.
Jackson’s offer from James Madison was in the last set offers he had received coming on May 15. Marshall University came just a day later while the Golden Flashes paid tribute on May 31.
