#10 Massaponax (2-0) vs. #4 Louisa (2-0) 7:00 p.m. Friday
Friday night will be a clash of two top-10 undefeated teams, as Massaponax travels to Mineral to knock heads with Louisa. Both teams are big, physical, and well coached. This game has the potential to be an instant classic. The Panthers are ranked 10th in our recruitNOVA poll while the Lions are ranked #4 in the 804.
LAST TIME OUT: MASSAPONAX
The Panthers rushing attack racked up 538 yards last week in its 47-30 victory over Dinwiddie. Not often do you hear of a team dismantling a Billy Mills coached defense. Junior quarterback Luke Morley paced the offense with a career-high 305 yards rushing and four scores. Fullback Elijah Christopher added to the total, by rushing for 92 yards and a touchdown. Christopher was also a recipient of a touchdown pass from Morley.
LAST TIME OUT: LOUISA
Louisa cruised to a 38-13 victory over Chancellor last Friday night in its home opener. Kalup Shelton carried the ball 20 times for 131 yards and a touchdown. Jarett Hunter picked up 89 yards and a score, while Robert Morgan finished the night with 76 yards on just five touches and two touchdowns.
If you come to this game expecting to see an all-out aerial assault, you should probably find another game to attend. Both teams play a smash mouth brand of football and will look to run it down the others throat. A good ole’ fashioned slobber knocker if you will.
Massoponax is averaging 47 points/game on offense but are giving up an average of 32 points on defense. Louisa on the other hand is averaging 38.5 points/game on offense and 9.5 points/game on defense.
Louisa’s defense faces a tall order this weekend against the Panthers triple option rushing attack. In their first two games of the year, Massaponax has rushed for over 1000 yards (BANANAS!). In order for Louisa to be successful, they have to play great assignment defense. When facing a triple option offense, there are no heroes. Every man must do their job and be in the right place at the right time, or else it will make for a long evening.
