Chris Tyree received his first Division I offer before he took his first high school football snap. As an eighth grader, Tyree was offered by Marshall University. Thirty-One additional schools would request the services of Mr. Tyree over the next several years, but as Chris stated at his commitment ceremony, “I can only pick one.”
In front of his family, friends, and a nationally televised audience, Tyree elected to continue his academic and athletic career at Notre Dame. “It’s a really prestigious academic school. Being able to get a degree from a prestigious school like that is very important,” he explained.
When asked about his star player’s commitment, Thomas Dale Head Coach Kevin Tucker stated, “It’s been a long process, but an enjoyable process. He took it all in stride. He took a lot of visits to a lot of different places. He was able to get to know a lot of staffs.” He continued, “Chris I think has gone with his gut, he’s made the right decision, and I’m super excited for him.
Why Notre Dame?
Notre Dame running back coach, Lance Taylor, played a big factor in Tyree’s decision to commit to the Irish. Taylor has coached Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffery and Bryce Love of the Washington Redskins.
The next big factor in his decision to join the Irish was his relationship with former L.C. Bird standout Jalen Elliot. Elliot is entering his final year at Notre Dame and has been a person Tyree has looked up to during his recruitment.

Irish head Coach Brian Kelly has made it apparent that he likes what the central region is producing. Former Manchester QB, Brendon Clark, will be headed to South Bend, IN in a few weeks to link up with Jalen Elliot. Additionally, Kelly has delivered offers to Hopewell’s TreVeyon Henderson (2021), and two additional offers to Malcom Greene (2020) and Jamareeh “Bugg” Jones (2021) of Highland Springs.
