For the second time in two seasons, the Huguenot Falcons begin the year with a new head football coach. After the departure of current Clover Hill Head Coach Brian Jennings, Jared Taylor took over. In 2018, Coach Taylor guided the Falcons to a 4-7 record and first round playoff loss to Louisa.
Addison Hayes, who assisted Taylor last season, has been named his successor and looks to guide the Falcons to a deeper run in this postseason.
“Being named the head coach at Huguenot has been a very humbling experience. Coach Taylor laid a great foundation for me to take over from here,” Coach Hayes stated.
Hayes has a cornerstone in his rising senior class.
Wide receiver and defensive back Kevin Gayles (2020 WR/DB 6-1 195) to help him transition into his first year as head coach. Gayles initially committed to ODU back in the spring, but has recently re-opened his recruitment. He now has his eyes on additional Division I opportunities.
“This has been a journey for me. I have put in lots of hard work and dedication this off-season. We have all been focused on pushing it to the limits and want to go out with a bang,” Gayles said.
In addition to Gayles, Coach Hayes will rely heavily upon 2020 OL/DL Derrick Starks (6-3 260) to be the leader on the line of scrimmage. Starks has drawn interest from Bethune Cookman and Wagner.
Other key players for the Falcons this fall include Manquell Ross (2020 WR/DB 5-7 170) who has drawn interest from Howard University, Virginia Union, and Randolph Macon, and Meh’ki Briggs (2020 LB 5-10 190).
“I’m really excited to kick this season off,” stated Coach Hayes. “We have some guys who have transferred in and I think they are really going to help us. We are pretty senior heavy for Richmond City and that will defiantly help us down the stretch.”
Huguenot will scrimmage fellow Richmond City Public Schools foe John Marshall on Saturday August 17th at Noon and will host Jamestown High School from the 757 on August 30th at 7PM to kick off the 2019 season.
