Henrico LB Khalil Finger grabs a VMI offer, prepares for a Region 5B quarter-final date with Varina

This time last season, Khalil Finger was preparing for a different type of opponent. After successfully returning from a knee injury against Mills Godwin earlier in the season, Hermitage drew a region quarter-final opponent of Meadowbrook. 35 points and 48 minutes later, the Panthers were ready to host Varina. It wasn’t until a week after Hermitage lost to Highland Springs in the Region 5B final that it all started to fall apart for the Panthers. This meant eventually losing a total of 12 starters into the regular season one of which included starting linebacker Khalil Finger.
Finger made his way over to Henrico where he soon fell under the direction and guidance of Warriors’ head coach Gerald Glasco. The Henrico product took multiple visits over the off-season to include Temple, Howard, Delaware State and Navy among others. However, it was in July when Finger was finally able to pick up his first collegiate offer from Virginia State University. On Saturday, Finger announced the acquisition of his second collegiate offer which was provided by the Virginia Military Institute on the eve of yet another playoff match up with Stu Brown and Varina.
“Coach took me and my family into his Oval Office and told me how great VMI is and that he wanted to offer me,” Finger told recruit804. “I just have one word; blessed.”
Khalil Finger has been invaluable to the Warriors’ defense over the last four months. This season he’s able to accumulate 61 tackles, seven sacks and two interceptions. He’s also picked up two blocked punts, three fumble recoveries, four pass break-ups and one forced fumble. His 61 tackles lead the team in that respective category and he’s started all nine games this season. Currently, Finger has a grade point average pushing 3.0 and scored a 1080 on his SAT reported back in May.
Currently, the Warriors are preparing for a quarter-finals matchup against Varina this Friday. Henrico knocked off the Blue Devils by just one point in mid-October and have won three-consecutive victories over Varina. Their match up on Friday will be the first time these two have matched up in the playoffs in school history. For Finger, it’ll be the fourth time he’s be a part of a team that has taken on the Blue Devils. Fortunately he’s been on the winning side of the first three battles against Varina.
When asked about what the community of Henrico could expect out of himself and the rest of the Warriors the Henrico product replied, “Another one in the win column.” Game time is at 7:00 p.m. on Friday night and the winner can expect to either take on #2 L.C. Bird or #7 Douglas Freeman in one of two Region 5B semi-final match ups.
