When dealing with the subject of progression, one can’t help but to think there are certain levels that must be obtained before you rise to certain plateaus. However, in the game of football, those levels of progression come easier for some than it does for others.
Life Christian starting offensive lineman Desaun Williams (2022 OL 6-4 300) arrived to the Eagles football program last season and aligned his goals with the overall direction of the program immediately. Williams is only a freshman, but his impact towards the offensive side of the ball last season was paramount for Coach Charles Scott and Life Christian. It’s rare for a freshman to strike fear in a game riddled with upperclassmen, however; Williams is no ordinary prospect. Liberty University picked up on this and provided the rising prospect with his fourth collegiate offer on Thursday afternoon.
“I really feel good about it and I really like their facilities,” Williams explained. “We were doing the photo shoot and the assistant offensive line coach came up to me and my friend and told us they wanted to offer us. He then took me to the offensive line coach so we could confirm everything and he wanted to meet me. Liberty is a really great school.”
The ultimate goal for Williams throughout the course of his academic and athletic career is to ensure he honors his family in everything that he does on and off the field. Feeling a sense of apprehension in some of the decisions he’s made in the past is a perception he no longer wishes to feel moving forward.
“My drive comes from the hunger I have burning deep down inside of me to reach my ultimate goal,” Williams said. “I really want to make my family proud. I’ve seen their faces when they get a little doubtful about me. I just tell myself I will never let them feel that way again so I have to go harder.”
This led to the talented offensive lineman playing nearly every down on the offensive side of the ball for Coach Scott last season. It’s also led to him getting opportunities to travel throughout the off-season in an effort to further increase his exposure to programs such as NC State and Virginia Tech among others. Williams traveled to Northern Virginia this past weekend where, for the first time, he got the chance to compete in a high level spring camp.
“It was my first and it was fun,” Williams stated. “All of the upperclassmen kept trying to steal reps so you know I had to sneak in there a few times. I definitely went against good competition and some of the guys I’ll be seeing again this season.”
Thus far, Williams also has offers from Rutgers, Virginia, and Baylor. Aside from those that have offered, Williams is currently fielding interest from West Virginia, Maryland, Penn State, Virginia Tech, Norfolk State, and James Madison among others.
