Just a few years ago, LCA starting defensive back/wide receiver Joe Johnson (2020 WR/DB 6-3 180) put a show on at Highland Springs in front of a couple hundred prospects in attendance at the recruit757 Clash of the Titans Showcase. Around that time he was a tall, lanky prospect looking for an opportunity at Hermitage surrounded by names like Jebril Murray, Percy Mayers and Ali Jennings.
On that particular day, Johnson walked away with not only overall MVP for the wide receiver group, but also overall MVP of the entire showcase. What you have to understand is that it was a day in which prospects such as C.J. Jackson (James Madison), Jalen Jackson (Villanova), Gerard Stringer (East Carolina) and Tayshaun Porter (Howard) among others showed to assert their status on the big board of many colleges at the time. Since then, Johnson has been one of the most underrated prospects to step on the football field in the Central Region. He’s watch an exponential growth in his recruitment over the last year which includes picking up two collegiate offers from Pittsburgh and Virginia Tech on Sunday just two hours apart.
“I feel blessed that all this hard work over the years is paying off,” Johnson told recruit804. “I have a lot of visits planned and a lot of coaches hitting me up. But right now, I’m just going to continue being humble and working hard as well as continue my 7v7 with Mach1.”
This past season Johnson was a huge contributor on the defensive side of the ball picking up 40 tackles to go along with three interceptions. Aside from Pittsburgh and Virginia Tech, Johnson has also picked up offers from: Liberty, Marshall, William & Mary, Howard, St. Francis and Virginia University of Lynchburg. As of right now, look for talks to begin to increase with Duke, Temple, Penn State, James Madison, Virginia and South Carolina.
