News broke Saturday afternoon that Highland Springs defensive back Malcolm Greene (2020 5-11 DB 185) gave his verbal commitment to Coach Ed Orgeron and the LSU Tigers. Greene held 30+ Division I offers and chose the Tigers over Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Michigan, Penn State, Notre Dame, UVA, and Virginia Tech to name a few.
When asked how it felt to have such a big decision out of the way, Greene stated, “It feels great! It’s kind of a big relief. I went through a lot with recruiting with different schools. I had my eyes on a couple schools and LSU was just a great opportunity for me…It was actually my dream school.”
Greene took his official visit to Baton Rouge back on October 12th when the Tigers hosted Florida and the atmosphere sealed the deal for the Springers product. “I’m not going to lie I wasn’t prepared for how crazy it was going to be. The fans were crazy and the environment was crazy. So many people in the area… I didn’t know that that many people could support one group and that was just a lot of love.”
Malcolm is the younger brother of former Highland Springs and current JMU standout defensive lineman Mike Greene and he credits his older brother with helping him throughout the recruiting process. “I talk to him every single day on Facetime. He broke it down to me on the do’s and don’ts of what I should do dealing with college coaches. He’s given me all the steps and tools,” he explained.
Highland Springs is currently riding a 37-game winning streak and head to Division 6 power house Colonial Forge Friday night. The Springers are no stranger to big games and have already defeated Division 6 Oscar Smith and last years Division 6 state champions Manchester who are now in the same region and division (5B) as them. Kickoff is slated for 7PM and I will be onsite covering the contest.
