Done Deal! Matoaca DB Xavier Addison commits to Virginia State

The Trojans are doing everything that they can to get back to the level they played at just a year ago. In 2017, Virginia State was able to walk away with the CIAA crown marking just the 10th time the Trojans have been able to do so in the 106-year history of the CIAA in its entirety.
Doing so has required Virginia State to look into what the Central Region has to offer in terms of collegiate prospects. Late Sunday evening the Trojans were able to receive a commitment out of prized Dinwiddie starting quarterback Peety Pope. However, two days before the commitment from the Dinwiddie product, Virginia State was able to beef up its secondary with the acquisition of Matoaca starting defensive back Xavier Addison.
“I actually committed before Peety two days ago,” Addison told recruit804. “But we definitely talked before committing. We know that we can be big pieces on the team. All we have to do is come in and work hard.”
Addison (2019 DB 6-0 185) was only able to play in six games last season as he missed contests against Massaponax, Thomas Dale, Hopewell and Dinwiddie. Over his tenure at Matoaca and L.C. Bird, Addison has tried his hand at multiple positions throughout the secondary and has even occupied time at running back. He was able to snag a couple of interceptions this season including one in the Big River Rivalry to conclude the 2018 football season. The decision to commit to Virginia State came with the opportunity for Addison to achieve his goals on and off the field.
“VSU is the best place for me to achieve my goals on and off the field,” Addison stated. “My new head coach and position coach have super bowl rings. They know what it takes to get to the next level. I talked to some of the players at VSU about the academics and they said academics are taken really serious there.”
Addison becomes the second Matoaca prospect to announce his commitment if you include Immanuel Hickman despite his de-commitment from Cincinnati not too long ago. Hickman is gearing up to announce yet another commitment, however; watch out for defensive lineman Elijah Thomas. He’s picked up offers from Virginia State and St. Andrews University within the last week. Don’t be surprised if he ends up a Trojan similar to his defensive counterpart Xavier Addison.
