Cosby High School rising senior Ethan West (LB 6’4”225) committed to UNC back in February after visiting the campus and meeting with Head Coach Mack Brown. West held offers from UVA, Tech, LSU, and Michigan, among others, but he believed Tar Heel country was the best fit.
“I’ve been through this recruiting process for the last two and a half years, three years, ever since my freshman year. It was just kind of getting down to the people and the place that I really felt at home and felt like a priority and that’s what UNC was,” he explained.
Last weekend West attended The Opening presented by Nike in Springfield, VA. When asked about the level of competition at the event, West stated, “There was a lot of good competition here, a lot of really good players who will go on to do really good things, but I think I stacked up fairly well, and was pretty much at the top of the group.”
As a junior, West notched 46 total tackles (nine for loss), a sack, and an interception. Cosby Head Coach Peter Mutascio stated, “Ethan is a hard worker. He is very athletic and has the skills necessary to play on either side of the ball. He is going to continue to get bigger, faster, and stronger.”
The Titans finished the 2018 season 4-7, losing in the first round of the Division 6 Region B playoffs to Thomas Dale. When asked what he and his team were looking to accomplish this season, West replied, “We’re hoping to improve on our record from last year and just keep improving as a team… Hopefully make a run in the playoffs and hopefully get this thing rolling.”
West and the Titans kickoff the regular against Chris Tyree and the Knights of Thomas Dale on 8/30/19.
