Thomas Dale has a storied list of prospects on the defensive side of the ball that have been nearly unstoppable especially in recent years. Last year alone the Knights held guys like Rick D’Abreu, Adam Hall, and Malik Purvis among others that set a tone in which made the Thomas Dale defense as tough to handle as it was. The year before it was guys like Shane Carter, Zach Jacobs, and Dusan Stjepanovic among others that were able to instill the same fear. This year, with their team being predominately healthy, expect prospects like Bryce Carter, Crishaun Saunders, Chris Tyree, Brian Davis, and Darius Sterling to be notables for the Knights
Heading into the regular season, we recognize the top 30 senior prospects in and around the region of Central Virginia. Continuing our countdown at number 23 is none other than senior prospect Thomas Dale starting defensive lineman Darius Sterling.
#23 Darius Sterling (2020 DL 6-3 265) – Thomas Dale High School
First of all, Darius Sterling owes the wonderful people of recruit804 an interview and that’s all we’re going to say about that. But all jokes aside, Sterling is most definitely a rare combination of power, speed, and discipline that’s sometimes difficult to capture at this level of football. Sterling was the third leading tackler for the Knights last season reeling in 102 in-total behind only Adam Hall (160) and Jimmy Hayden (106). However, his 12 sacks tied Travonte Jones of Hopewell as the most within the Central District.
Not only was Sterling able to secure All-Region recognition last year, he was also able to pick up All-804 honors along with Chris Tyree, Berk Snow, DeAngelo Gray, and Adam Hall from Thomas Dale. Sterling finally secured his first collegiate offer back in mid-January and since then has picked up an offer from Wagner College towards the end of May. The Thomas Dale product has made sure to embark on multiple visits this off season including Wagner, Old Dominion, Kent State, and East Carolina among other programs. Sterling has proved to be one of the better defensive linemen in the Central Region.
