Hopewell had a season to remember in 2017 as they took some lumps in the regular season, but applied that to streaking through the Class 3 playoff field, all the way to a state title win.
Heading into the regular season, we recognize the top 30 senior prospects in and around the city of Richmond. Continuing our countdown as the 13th best senior prospect region-wide is Hopewell wide receiver Sean Allen.
#13 Sean Allen (2019 WR 6-0 160) – Hopewell High School
Hopewell should be considered a favorite to repeat in 2018. Sean Allen steps into a senior leadership role and he’ll have to get it done while breaking in a new quarterback. His teammate, First Team Class 3 All-State quarterback Greg Cuffey has graduated and moved on to play football at William and Mary.
Allen came into the Class 3 state championship game as the leading receiver for Hopewell, tallying 44 receptions for 937 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns. In the title game, Allen chipped in three more catches, for 80 yards and a touchdown, putting him well over 1,000 yards receiving for his junior season.
In 2017, Hopewell was driven by the rushing attack of Ronnie Walker (Indiana). That opened up the passing game. In 2018, the torch is passed to sophomore tailback Robert Briggs. Allen, along with fellow senior wide out and Fab 30 athlete #27 Kadarius Singleton, may be called to stretch the field in order to pave the way for Briggs.
Hopewell answers the bell for the start of the 2018 season with a road game, Friday, August 24 at I.C. Norcom High School in Portsmouth.
