Henrico County High School linebacker Khalil Finger made his commitment to VMI official on National Signing Day in front of family, friends, coaches, and teachers, both past and present. There were many tears of joy shed as Finger inked his name on the dotted line becoming a Keydet.
Khalil’s PE teacher from middle school was one of many who took the stand to speak about their relationship with the standout linebacker. Fighting back tears, he explained that he had to have many tough conversations with Finger during his time at Brookland Middle school, and to see how far he has come brought tears to his eyes. “Don’t give up on your kids!” was the teachers final response as he left the podium.
Finger spent his first three years of high school at Hermitage. Like many, he decided to pursue other options after the departure of longtime Panther Head Coach Tom Kane. Per Henrico Head Coach Gerald Glasco, “Khalil came in and was a leader from day one.”
In his first and only season as a Warrior, Finger racked up 75 tackles, 7.5 sacks, 2INT’s, 1 forced fumble, 5 fumble recoveries, and a blocked kick.
Needless to say, Finger will be a much needed presence on the defensive side of the ball for the Keydets in the coming years.
