The Eagles received a boost to their secondary over the course of the summer when Thailand Baldwin made the decision to transfer from Phoebus to Life Christian. However, it wasn’t just the back half of the defense that received an upgrade from the presence of Baldwin. His recruitment also took a jump when he switched uniforms. On Wednesday morning, Baldwin picked up his eighth scholarship offer from Charlotte.
“They came by the school and we had a good talk,” Baldwin stated. “I like that they’re on the rise.”
Since transferring to Life Christian, Charlotte is the third offer he’s been able to secure. Baldwin (2021 DB 6-1 174) picked up Liberty in April and Temple in October. As a Phantom, he was able to snag offers from: Rutgers, UTSA, Fordham, Tennessee, and Army. With one more year of eligibility left after re-classing upon signing on with Life Christian, the recruiting process is finally beginning to pick up steam for the talented defensive back.
“It’s starting to kind of pick up,” Baldwin explained. “I’m just being grateful for all the opportunities coming my way.”
In 2018, Baldwin was able to secure All-757, All-District, All-Region, and All-State honors from the defensive back position. He finished the season with 83 tackles, 17 pass breakups, and five interceptions. He was also an integral component in Phoebus advancing to the Class 3 state championship game. However, in 2019; Baldwin took a slight step back accumulating 40 tackles, 11 pass breakups, two interceptions, and one forced fumble.
The Eagles finished with a record of 4-6 this past season which is a few wins better than their inaugural season in 2018. Since the end of August; Thailand Baldwin, Akim Sledge, Khalil Miller, and Marquez Taylor have been able to add to their offer list. Over the same time span, Khalil Miller and Marvin Reed both announced commitments while Joe Johnson, Michael James, and Antonio Webb made their announcements over the summer.
