Thomas Dale senior Jasiah Williams (2020 WR 5-11 175) committed to the University of Richmond on Tuesday afternoon. Williams held offers from Kent State, West Point, Air Force, and Liberty. When asked about his commitment, Williams stated, “Despite it literally being home, U of R felt like it could be the home away from home that every athlete wants in a college. They consistently showed their desire for me to be a spider, and their desire was genuine.”
Jasiah began his high school career at Dinwiddie but came to Thomas Dale last season. Since day one, Coach Kevin Tucker knew he had landed a great leader and player.
“When he enrolled at Dale, he and his family came and introduced themselves to me and from that meeting I knew he was something special. All of the players were thrilled to have him and quickly built a bond with him.”
Tucker continued, “Richmond is getting a kid who will be the first to class and practice and the last to leave. If he is late to our practice, he is making up a quiz or test. He holds himself to a high standard.”
Williams and the Knights are off to a 2-0 start and have yet to be scored on. This week they face a new look Hermitage program who dropped a double overtime game to Henrico last week. “The mentality throughout the locker room is to fight complacency. It’s very easy to reach a point of feeling as if you’ve done enough, which put great teams in the gutter,” explained Williams.
To that same sentiment, Coach Tucker stated, “Regardless of who is coaching over there at Herm, they are playing sound football right now. Lot of former L.C. Bird coaches are over there and they are running the football and smashing people on defense. Hermitage could be a team to beat down the stretch.”
