ACC on notice: Jaden Payoute to suit up for Virginia Tech in 2019

Earlier this week, Virginia Tech held a satellite camp at Randolph-Macon College looking to not only put an eye on local talent, but to also lend their expertise to the prospects in attendance searching for growth. What they found was a prospect wide receiver by the name of Jaden Payoute who has put the Central Region on notice as of late. Not only did Jaden win all of his 1-on-1’s, he jumped his way to a 42-inch vertical and a 4.38 40-yard dash. Following his performance at Randolph-Macon, Jaden secured eight more collegiate offers with Virginia Tech being the second of the eight to come through.
Coach Justin Fuente and the Virginia Tech coaching staff invited Jaden (2019 WR 6-3 195) and his family to Blacksburg for a visit over the weekend. On Saturday, Jaden announced his commitment to Virginia Tech. However, on Sunday, he announced his commitment for all of the public to see.
“The commitment actually happened yesterday, but I announced it to the world today. I wanted to let my family know first and share that moment with them,” Jaden told recruit804. “Honestly, Virginia Tech felt like home and family. I have a teammate up there right now and Coach Fuente has treated me well ever since I met him.”
The big question is where Jaden will fit in with the Hokies in 2019? What we do know is that Virginia Tech brought in upwards of 15 wide receivers throughout the spring. Tre Turner and Eric Kumah have been sidelined for a portion of the spring which has given other prospects the chance to step up. Expect Sean Savoy and Hezekiah Grimsley to be two of the Hokies top receivers going into next season, but after that it gets shaky. Jaden has the opportunity to make a huge impact for the Hokies with wide receiver being one of their most uncertain positions.
“Coach Fuente told me that I have a really good chance of getting some playing time as a freshman. By telling me some of the things they’ve told me, I feel really wanted by Virginia Tech,” Jaden stated.
With Marcus Banks graduating, the Skyhawks will be searching for a new quarterback to distribute the ball around to Jaden and company this upcoming season. Coach Troy Taylor has three solid arms on campus that can get the job done, but it’ll be all about fit. Although Jaden is pretty set on Virginia Tech, a solid senior season could have schools on larger playing fields test the loyalty of the L.C. Bird product. Tennessee, Pittsburgh, Richmond and James Madison weren’t enough to sway Jaden away from Virginia Tech. Only time will tell if it stays that way.
