There will be a double dose of Titan on the campus of VCU this Saturday, with both the Lake Taylor boys and girls programs advancing to the Class 4 state finals following semifinal wins on Tuesday night. The trip will be the second title game appearance in three years for the boys, while girls head coach Saundra Sawyer will look to win her fourth state championship with the Lady Titans.
Boys head coach Kenny Brown and his one-loss Titans bunch will face the winner of Loudoun Valley-John Handley immediately following the girls contest. The last time Lake Taylor appeared on the Siegel Center court, the Titans blew a late fourth quarter lead in a loss to Monacan.
Senior guard Joe Bryant Jr led Lake Taylor with 33 points, four rebounds, four steals and three assists. Dereon Seabron added 25 points and 14 rebounds.
In the girls contest, sophomore guard Jordan Poole scored a team-high 17 points as the Titans defeated Kings Fork 57-38, their second win over the Bulldogs in a week. Sawyer and Lake Taylor move on to Saturday’s state championship against Millbrook. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30p.m.
