We’re now at the point of the season where we’re eyeing playoff teams. Saturday’s pairing of Bethel vs. Heritage gave both teams the opportunity to earn Power Points and improve their lot for the playoffs. Bethel made it in with three losses last season. They don’t have much room for error from this point forward.
Both Franklin and Sussex Central continued their dominance on Friday night as they edge closer to a late season showdown in the Tri-Rivers District. The two teams are undefeated now, and they’ve mowed through their opponents all season.
It was a matchup of two unbeatens. For Western Branch that was nothing new. In fact, Grassfield was the third unbeaten team that the Bruins had seen in as many weeks.
Something had to give. The Great Bridge Wildcats had been on the skids all season. Deep Creek was winless last season and was looking to break a 15 game losing streak. The game came down to the last play.
Rolling out to a 38-7 halftime lead, Cox (5-2) cruised to a Beach District win by that same count on Tallwood’s homecoming. The Falcons went beyond its first string after amassing 214 first half yards, all on the ground.
We’re now at the mid-point of the season, and we have enough data to look at stat leaders and see the stories developing. So far, the Southside teams have been far more prolific offensively. We’re also seeing that in the recruitment of players in the Classes of 2013 and 2014.
We’re at the halfway point of the season. While we know a lot about the teams in the Peninsula District already, the story isn’t finished. Is Phoebus still Phoebus? Will any Newport News teams make the playoffs? Will there be a Division 6 team from the Peninsula in the postseason?
Congratulations to Greenbrier Christian Academy running back Ty Smith for winning the Freedom Ford Player of the Week award. The award was presented to Ty on Wednesday afternoon, and photos from the event are posted in the gallery on recruit757.com!
Princess Anne linebacker Aaron Glover is a standout for his Cavaliers team. He’s perhaps the biggest college prospect on the squad, and he’s only a junior. College interest is rolling in for the defender who hit the camp and college circuit hard over the Spring and Summer. His hard work is paying off, though he’s not done yet.
