BRD First Round Preview

In Region I, Bay Rivers District teams get to square off against the best of the Southside and Battlefield districts. Fortunately for our home teams, there’s little on the schedule that sets them up to knock each other out early. In Division 4, there’s a chance we could see the bracket 75% filled by local teams after this week’s games are through.

Goosen Courts ECU Interest

Tallwood lineman T.J. Goosen is setting himself up for an active recruitment. As one of the anchors on the Tallwood line, he has ample opportunity to showcase his skills, but the Lions haven’t had a winning season in years. T.J.’s pro-activity will help him get the college attention he’s looking for, regardless of his team’s record on the field.

Final Beach Recap

The last game at Kellam’s Ammons field saw a record-breaking performance. Unfortunately, for the Knights, it was a fantastic night for the visiting Ocean Lakes Dolphins. Two of the highest regarded seniors in the region proved it Friday night with wide receiver Andre Dessenberg scoring six touchdowns, and quarterback Corwin Cutler breaking the school record for touchdown passes.

Smith Squeezes Out One More Win

The defending champs were on the ropes. Oscar Smith had a 54 game district winning streak on the line, along with playoff seeding and pride. The Tigers were lethargic against King’s Fork for three quarters on Friday night. They managed to force overtime with seven seconds left, then had the guts to fend off the Bulldogs for the double overtime win.
