The Commodores Win a Nail Biter in Portsmouth

The air in Portsmouth was screaming for a football game to be played, and boy was football played. The I.C. Norcom Greyhounds hosted the Maury Commodores in an Eastern District showdown. The Greyhounds were 2-0 coming into the game and the main goal was to extend the early season win streak. On the other side of the ball, the Maury Commodores were 2-1 and were ready to begin their Eastern District schedule with a win.

Oscar Smith and Grassfield are now the only Southeastern District teams with undefeated records. Ocean Lakes, Cox, and Salem now lead at the Beach. Lake Taylor and Maury brought their records to 3-1 and dropped Norview and Norcom down to 3-1. Churchland now leads the Eastern District with a 4-0 record. Bethel knocked Woodside off in a defensive battle, upping their record to 3-1 while Woodside fell to 3-1. Bishop Sullivan topped Nansemond-Suffolk in a TCIS battle of undefeateds.

The Greyhounds Look To Remain Undefeated When They Face the Commodores

The I.C. Norcom Greyhounds are off to a 2-0 start and are ready to make it 3-0. The Norcom Greyhounds start facing familiar foes this week when they face the Commodores of Maury High School. The Greyhounds defeated the Lakeland Cavaliers in game one and Deep Creek in game two. When Norcom faces Maury, it could be a bigger test. Maury is 2-1 their only loss coming against the Grizzlies of Grassfield. The two wins are against Warwick and Menchville.

There’s the injury bug, and then there’s what the Lake Taylor High school football team is dealing with. The state champions from a year ago are having trouble even keeping their third string signal caller healthy. In spite of the problems keeping a quarterback on the field, Lake Taylor Head Coach Hank Sawyer is positive about his team’s outlook for the rest of the season.
