The Kellam Knights are at a bit of a crossroads. They did everything right for most of last season. They won their first four games before falling to Cox. Losses to Bayside, Salem, and Ocean Lakes crushed their playoff hopes in the back end of the season, but there’s lots to build on. This year, making the playoffs will be easier due to the new VHSL postseason structure, but Coach Chris DeWitt questions where all of his production will come from.

VMI: Return to Restructured SoCon Looming with Many Players from 757

Nearly one decade ago, Virginia Military Institute forfeited almost 80 years of continuous membership in the Southern Conference to move to the Big South. Many rumors at the time indicated that the change was sparked by the legendary school in Lexington, VA to de-emphasize athletics. Of all things, now rumors are that VMI is more committed to their football program based on their election to return to the SoCon effective on July 1, 2014.

Wells Out At Smithfield

After two productive seasons with the Smithfield Packers, quarterback Jermaal Wells won’t be on the sidelines for the Packers in his junior season. The Daily Press reported on Wednesday that Wells is not on the preseason roster for Smithfield. Head Coach Clark Harrell is less talkative about Wells and more than willing to talk about Wells’ successor.

Motuapuaka Ready For Tech (VIDEO Exclusive!)

Jasmine Amiker of recruit757 was able to catch up with Salem grad Andrew Motuapuaka in his last days before heading off to Virginia Tech. Andrew was at Old Dominion’s team camp, watching younger brother Army compete with the SunDevils. Yes, Andrew missed being out on the field with his SunDevils, but the linebacker was ready to roll, and is in Hokie camp now.
