Future Watch: Tyler DeSue

Sometimes, up and coming talent is hard to ignore. There might be two more varsity starters at quarterback for Ocean Lakes before Tyler DeSue rises up, but he’s almost certain to make an appearance soon. Schedule Preview: Peninsula District

By now, most of us know that the districts are gone. Football programs have extended their district arrangments for the purpose of scheduling for the next two years. That means that all teams in the Peninsula district will have nine guaranteed matchups, with only one game to schedule “out-of-district”. Since all former Peninsula District teams have ten games, they’ll all have their schedule set for the fall of 2013 and 2014.

Team Camp Gives Programs A Jump On The Season

For most teams, two-a-days start on Thursday with the start of August. At Powhatan Field on Monday morning, it was a sea of blue, white, and orange as several teams got together to get early work in. Goosen Adds New Offer

Tallwood offensive lineman Theo “T.J.” Goosen is seeing his recruitment pick up as summer camp season winds down. College coaches are sold on the 6-5 270 pound tackle, especially since his academics are outstanding. All he needs is a little kick start, and it looks like the offers will start rolling in.

Schedule Preview: Eastern District

Again, we’re going to go into this year treating the programs as though they’re playing a district schedule. The VHSL reclassified all high school programs earlier this year, and the new classifications are effective with the start of the new school year. In football, all teams generally agreed to keep their district schedules in order to make scheduling easier for the next two years. For the schools of the former Eastern District, that means seven games of “the usual” and three new games for the schedule. That has presented problems for two schools.

New Offense and the Navigators Are Ready To Compete

The Hampton Roads Academy Navigators did not have the season they looked for last year. With that being said, some things have changed and boy are they ready for this year. With the addition of former Portsmouth Christian coach, Josh Blalock as the offensive coordinator, the sky is the limit for this young HRA team. “This is a major change for us, especially filling the void at QB,” says Head Coach Bryce Kiser.
