Commodores Off To Early Start, Fraser Warns Non-Region Foes

The Maury Commodores were in a bit of a bind when it came to filling out their schedule in 2013. The VHSL reclassified all programs in all sports in the offseason, and that created chaos. For Maury Football, they were a game short when they received approval from the VHSL to schedule a game a week early in order to get their tenth. The Commodores kick off the season on Friday night at Powhatan Field against the Menchville Monarchs.

School hasn’t even started, yet the halls are abuzz with excitement about the new direction Coach Dealton Cotton has brought to the school. He arrived in the building at the beginning of the year, and he’s built up an interest in football that feels like it has some staying power.

Maryland Impacts Delaware via Conference Changes and Personnel

Maryland has struggled in the last five years to be a major player in talent for the area. The move away from the home league (ACC) to a predominantly Midwest group (Big Ten) may very well increase the Terrapins’ difficulty in inking impact players here. For Delaware, conference moves might signal a higher priority in inking FBS players within the 757. With Old Dominion’s move to FBS, the Monarchs will have to ratchet up the quality of local talent to sign. This will leave the door open for remaining CAA programs such as Delaware to sign those overlooked.
