Prospect Watch: Blue Chip Challenge

($$) Despite the rain that threatened early, the Blue Chip Challenge, hosted by the 757 Sports Academy, was a showcase for some of the best athletes in the region, all looking to earn a selection to the Chesapeake Bowl All-Star Game. There were dominant performances at every position, and surprising outings from players that aren’t getting as much attention, at least not yet.

McClease Picks Up Fourth Offer

($$) Yet another Oscar Smith Tiger has a recruitment that’s burning brightly. Running back DeShawn McClease is coming into his junior season, and college coaches have taken notice. McClease was the lead back for the Tigers last year after the departure of J.C. Coleman to Virginia Tech. Coleman is now starring for the Hokies. McClease is not far away from figuring out where his skills will take him in college.

Mizzell’s Arrival Already Impacts Cavs, Richardson Moving On

The running back pool was getting deep at the University of Virginia.    Taquan “Smoke” Mizzell is expected to have an immediate impact for the Cavaliers, and that’s prompted third string tailback Clifton Richardson to transfer.   Richardson, a Menchville grad, was highly touted as a part of the 2011 graduating class, but nursed injuries over the last two seasons and never got the carries he expected to get at UVA.
