Sussex Central Falls To Franklin
With a “Frankenstorm” bearing down on the east coast and conditions not being the best for a football game, undefeated Franklin hosted undefeated Sussex Central at noon Saturday at Armory Field. The wind was blowing at kickoff at about 20 mph, but that did not deter either of the competitors from coming out strong. Fans were still “filtering” into Armory Field when the Tigers of Sussex County kicked off to give the Broncos the first possession.

It was a hard fought battle, but Oscar Smith wore down the Grizzlies, kept them off the scoreboard, and bulled their way to another Southeastern District title.

Eastern District Games Postponed
Due to expected weather related to Hurricane Sandy that’s moving up the east coast, the Eastern District has decided to cancel all games scheduled for tomorrow. Because all Norfolk teams are at home this weekend, all games had been scheduled for Saturday afternoon. Weather forecasts are calling for heavy downpours and tropical storm force winds by the scheduled kickoff time.

Maury Homecoming “Saved”
On Thursday morning, Maury got word that they would have a homecoming at home after all. The scheduling changes by Norfolk Public Schools essentially banished the Commodores for their homecoming game. Now, that decision has been reversed.

Johnson Adds MAC Offer
Warwick running back Cardon Johnson has had an up and down kind of season. His Raider team has had some hard knocks, falling out of playoff contention early. They’ll miss the playoffs this year for the first time in six years. Johnson has missed a few games as well. When he’s been in, he’s been productive. The season is winding down and it’s almost time for him to look ahead to getting well and playing college ball.
